Fuerte is the most chilled of the Canaries, the golden sandy dunes are famed for their watersports, with surfing, windsurfing and kite-boarding. And for those that like to explore there are many pretty, traditional villages just a short car journey away from wherever you are staying.
Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura
Caleta de Fuste, or El Castillo as it is also known, is one of the newer resorts on the island. It is situated just south of the island's airport on the east coast; and 12 km south of the capital, Puerto del Rosario.
30 years ago there was very little development in Caleta de Fuste, but the resort has grown steadily since that time. The resort is centred on a large beach of yellow sand and a small harbour. 1 km to the south there are several new man-made lagoons and beaches.
There are a large number of restaurants, serving international cuisine; a range of bars, and a selection of shops and small supermarkets.
The holiday accommodation ranges self-catering apartments to 5 Star Hotels and a range of apartments and villas which are let by private owners.
The resort has 3 main areas. Central Caleta is located between the main road and the sea, and is close to the main beach. 'Up the hill' Caleta is on the lower slopes of Montana Blanca. Southern Caleta is based close to the Atlantico Shopping Centre and the 2 golf courses.
Caleta de Fuste is known to be ideal for families and for people looking for a quiet and relaxed holiday; and is an all year round holiday destination.
